Jewish Teen Internship orientation

Camp Orientation began on June 23 with the staff of the new Simchah on the Hill summer camp, as well as Kindercamp. The teens who are participating in the Jewish Teen Internship also met for the first time for their orientation, as well.

There are some camps that still have limited availability for the week of July 5 through 9.

Dance Camp Explosion:
Dance campers will be treated to a wide variety of dance disciplines including hip-hop, ballet, jazz, tap and more. From elementary dance steps to intricate routines, all campers will benefit from professional instruction while enjoying high-energy, fun-filled days culminating with a special dance performance. Taught by Beth Dager, Professional Dance Teacher.  Cost is $340 for JCC members and $365 for the community.

Tennis Camp:
Tennis Camp offers a recreation-focused environment combined with the latest training techniques to improve tennis skills at every level. Campers will get valuable instruction on tennis basics including forehand, backhand, serve, volley and net play as well as daily round robin play and skill game favorites. The daily schedule includes morning instruction and drills, followed by afternoon games and match play. In case of rain, modified drills and recreational games are played in the JCC gym. This camp is taught by Ed Channing, tennis pro, and the cost is $340 per week for JCC members and $365 per week for the community. Scott Kaplan is named director of Simchah on the Hill

The JCCNS is happy to announce that Scott Kaplan has accepted the position of camp director for Simchah on the Hill, effective immediately. Scott has a long history with JCCNS camping and is beloved by the campers and staff who have worked with him over the years. Since 1993, Scott has been at Camp Simchah, first as the music specialist and then serving as camp director for the past 10 years. Currently, Scott is a teacher in the Danvers Public Schools and lives in Peabody with his wife Elyssa and their children, Max, 4, and Samantha, 2. Robotics project added to Simchah on the Hill’s Computer Camp

Due to popular demand, a Robotics project has been added to Simchah on the Hill’s computer camp, running August 16 through 20.  In addition to computer skills, children will now learn to solve challenges by building and programming robots using LEGO RoboLabs. The cost is $340 for JCC members and $365 for the community.

Sign up for one week or sign up for all seven. This camp offers a recreation-focused environment combined with the latest training techniques to improve tennis skills at every level. Campers will get valuable instruction on tennis basics including forehand, backhand, serve, volley and net play as well as daily round robin play and skill game favorites. The daily schedule includes morning instruction and drills, followed by afternoon games and match play. In case of rain, modified drills and recreational games are played in the JCC gym. This camp is taught by Ed Channing, tennis pro, and the cost for fours days is $315 members and $330 for the community. Additional flexible pricing options and schedules are also available. Computers on the Hill

Unlock the power of your computer to make it more useful for you in school and more interesting just for the fun of it. Practice some keyboarding skills or learn to use spreadsheets which are useful for science experiments and math class, not to mention its financial uses. Learn safe and reliable ways to do research on the internet. Work with word processing programs, slide presentation programs, movie making programs, website design and more. This camp will use a variety of software programs geared for different age groups so everyone will find success.

Krav Maga Kids Camp

Used for self-defense by the Israeli military, Krav Maga means “close combat” in Hebrew. Krav Maga Kids encompasses games, fitness and pad work drills as well as simple self-defense techniques presented in an age-appropriate fashion. This camp is big on FUN and the foremost goal is to help campers build strong minds and strong bodies. This camp will foster strong values and develop responsibility, confidence and respect in your child. Krav Maga Kids Camp is taught by Gershon ben Keren, owner of the Boston Academy of Krav Maga and meets July 26 through 30 and August 16 through 20.

The cost is $340 for JCC members and $365 for the community.

Basketball on the Hill

Love to shoot hoops? Go crazy at Basketball on the Hill, taught by Coach Peter Scafidi,PE teacher at Weston High School and AAU Basketball Coach. Campers will focus on fundamental basketball skills including: shooting, dribbling, passing, rebounding, free throws, defense and court positioning. Skills will be put into action daily through game, drill stations and competitions. In addition, basketball terminology and learning to understand the game will be covered.

Summer on the HIll 2010 - Experiences and friendships that last a lifetime.

Situated on our 11-acre seaside campus in Marblehead, Simchah on the Hill is a Jewish day camp for children entering grades 1-7. Simchah on the Hill is a collaboration between the Jewish Community Center of the North Shore and Cohen Hillel Academy, the North Shore’s premier Jewish Day School.
