MONDAY

Zumbatomic®  Register Now

Kids love to crank up the music, shake, wiggle and have a blast with their friends. So why not get fit while they’re at it? Zumbatomic® is a fun, kid-friendly dance program using the Zumba® Fitness concept.

 

Tennis, Ages 6-8

The JCC tennis pro will teach your young beginners the basics of tennis, with specially-designed lower nets.

Tennis, Ages 9 & 10 Kids learn forehand, backhand, volley and serving in this fun class for the beginner to intermediate player.

Tennis, Ages 11+ On the move! Older kids refine their forehand, backhand, volley and serve. They play games and keep score.

NEW! Candlepin Bowling

We will travel by van every Monday to Lucky Strike Lanes in Lynn for an afternoon of bowling fun. Learn new skills and perfect your game. There will be contests for the highest total pins down, the most games won, the most strikes, the most spares and more! Bowlers must be wearing socks in order to bowl.

Music, Music, Music!

Sing your way through the afternoon with fun and silly songs. If you play an instrument, bring it along we can try some accompaniment. We’ll also use instruments in the music room, including keyboards, recorders and bells. You can create your own instruments, too. Let’s get musical!

SCRATCH

Do your kids love video and computer games?  SCRATCH is a fun programming language that helps kids create their own computer stories, animations, games, music and art — and then share their creations on the web. Children learn important mathematical ideas while learning to think creatively and work collaboratively.

Knit and Purl

Is there a young knitter in your family? This class is for beginners and more experienced knitters. Learn how to cast on and do a variety of stitches. We’ll begin with a simple project, such as a scarf, and move on from there. Experienced knitters will learn to follow patterns. Students should supply their own knitting needles and yarn. Boys and girls welcome!

Homework Help – Monday through Thursday

Wouldn’t it be great to avoid some of the homework headaches each night? Now you can! Send your children to Homework Help and they’ll work with an experienced teacher to get organized and finish assignments. You’ll enjoy more quality family time when everyone gets home.

TUESDAY

NEW! Fit ‘N Fueled Kids

This fun, interactive class combines fitness and games with nutrition education and a healthy snack. Personal trainer and registered dietician Rachel Dziedzic will teach your kids the importance of exercise and eating a variety of nutritious foods to keep their bodies strong, fit and healthy for a lifetime!

NEW! Girls Volleyball

Spike! Girls Volleyball is for both beginner and intermedia players.  We’ll have two nets set up and girls will be split up by ages. Each class starts with skill work and ends with game play!

NEW! Art Rocks!

This unique art class will combine creativity and nature to form some amazing masterpieces!  We’ll use rocks, sticks, seeds, recyclables and anything else the outdoors has to offer to help us with our paintings, drawings, carvings and so much more!  Art Rocks!

Kids in the Kitchen

This is a favorite class for the budding chefs in your family. Students learn to read recipes and measure ingredients. Our chefs prepare dishes for breakfast, lunch and dessert. Kids help choose the recipes and will, of course, enjoy tasting everything they prepare!

Lorax Heroes

Have you read Dr. Seuss’s book? Have you seen the movie?! The Truffula, plus the Oak, Elm and all the trees are in trouble, and it is up to us to help save them! Join this class to do good deeds and help the world. We’ll recycle, find new uses for old stuff, create trash-to-treasure art projects and have fun with some great websites and games. Part of each session will be spent in hands-on community service projects around the JCC, CHA and the community.

WEDNESDAY

Tennis, Ages 6-8

The JCC Tennis pro will teach your young beginners the basics of tennis, with specially-designed lower nets.

Tae Kwon Do

Kids get a kick out of Tae Kwon Do, the popular martial art known for its dynamic kicking techniques. Children learn in a safe, fun environment with lots of games.

  •  Beginner to Intermediate students are introduced to kicking and punching techniques, self-defense and forms. The training also includes mental skills that improve memorization.
  •  Intermediate to Advanced students are challenged with more complicated mental and physical skill sets, including advanced forms, self-defense and the study of the musculoskeletal system.
  •  Advanced students prepare for demonstrations and competitions which will include advanced self-defense techniques, forms and weapons training (Bo Staff, Kamas, and Nunchuks).

NEW! Puzzles and Games

Spend the afternoon exploring many types of puzzles and board games. Try brain-teaser puzzles and challenges or set up a board game with a friend. Have a large game of Pictionary. All these puzzles and games help develop thinking and problem solving powers- skills that come in handy both in and out of school.

Wide World of Crafts

Join us to create favorite crafts and explore new ones. Paint, build, sculpt, draw, sew and decorate. Students are encouraged to express their own creativity. There will be crafts related to the holidays and new projects every week. Student suggestions for projects are always welcome.

Lego Robotics

Yes… it’s true! Come design and build robots with Legos and sensors. Then learn to program their movement on the computer. Look forward to gladiator-style robot competitions and other exciting challenges for your robot!

THURSDAY

 New! J-Jump Kids

It’s the newest way at the J for kids to stay fit and have fun!  Children love bouncing and jumping on mini-trampolines as much as they like jumping on your bed. Add games, music and friends and see why this class is hopping!

NEW! Ultimate Frisbee The JCC is getting ahead of the arch. In Ultimate Frisbee, you score points by passing the disc to a player in the opposing end zone.  The result is fun, great exercise and team work!

New Time! Sports Club

Burn off all that pent-up energy after school! Students play soccer, kickball, dodgeball, basketball and wiffle ball! Suggestions for other games are welcomed by the teacher. We’ll play outside whenever the weather permits so be sure to dress properly for outdoor play!

Creative Computers

Let’s learn to draw, design and write on the computer! Write a story with help from “Dot” at PBSkids, create a unique snowflake, draw your own picture, add some clipart and make your own “I Spy” puzzle.  Students will have time to explore ideas of their own.

STEM Investigators Science, technology, engineering and math are all around us!  Explore how things work and how they are designed.  Learn to think like a scientist and an engineer.  We’ll work on hands-on projects designed to challenge your imagination and creativity. We might design a playground, build a rollercoaster, create a bridge and more. There will always be new challenges.

Creative Chefs

Your kids help decide the menu for this delicious cooking class. We’ll prepare favorite family recipes, try some new foods, cook for the holidays and pick some international recipes to try. The chefs will learn how to read recipes, measure, use different utensils and become more confident in the kitchen.

Beginner Chess

Learn chess from a Master! Mikhail has extensive experience playing chess and passing on his love of this great game to students. Learn the pieces and game strategies and practice at every class.

Intermediate Chess

Take it to the next level! If you know the basics and have some experience, join this class to work with a Master to expand your knowledge and perfect more advanced strategies and moves.

FRIDAY

New! Cake Decorating

In this exciting new cooking class, we will bake cupcakes, cookies and cakes and then decorate them. We will learn to make our own frosting and how to use decorating cones to make flowers, borders, leaves, basket weaves and much more. By the end of this class, you will be able to create your own special decorated desserts for family parties!

Computer Club

Kids love computer time and this is a great chance for them to play games or do research – all with supervision. They’ll also learn to make PowerPoint presentations, create graphs and charts and use publishing programs.
