Free Leadership Training for Jewish Teens in Grades 8-10 (as of 9/2010)
Do you love camp? Have you always wanted to work with children? Are you hoping to further develop your leadership skills? Are you looking to build your pre-college resume? Then look no further. The Jewish Teen Internship (JTI) is a FREE program that will give you valuable leadership training and interpersonal communication skills, while you assist JCC camp activities and spend time with other teens from across the community.
In this unique summer internship program, you will learn about being a role model to campers (the Jewish value of Dugma), develop leadership skills that will last a lifetime, and acquire tools for working with children and peers, all under the supervision of camp staff and Youth Director Darren Benedick.
In addition, you will meet with special guests from the JCC, North Shore Teen Initiative, Robert I. Lappin Charitable Foundation and Cohen Hillel Academy to learn about first aid and CPR; team building; group dynamics; community service; Israel and so much more.
The Jewish Teen Internship runs in two-week sessions throughout the summer. You may register for as many sessions as they would like, but are required to make a minimum of a two-week commitment. The sessions for the Jewish Teen Internship are:
| Mandatory Orientation: | June 23, June 24 and June 27 | Session 1 | June 28-July 9 | Session 2 | July 12-July 23 | Session 3 | July 26-August 6 | Session 4 | August 9-August 20 |
During each of the two-week sessions, there will be a Friday overnight, which will take the Jewish camping experience to a new level. Included will be Shabbat dinner, campfire activities with awesome food, Jewish vibrancy and nighttime sports. Overnights are scheduled for July 9, July 23, July 30 and August 20.
Other Benefits
- Teens who make a 4-week commitment to JTI will receive a one-year complimentary Youth Membership to the JCC.
- Each teen intern will receive a certificate upon completion that can be used to fulfill community service requirements.
Eligibility Requirements
- This program is free and open to Jewish teens in grades 8-10 (as of September 2010).
- There is a $100 deposit that is fully refundable upon completion of the program.
- There is a mandatory orientation for all interns June 23, 24 and 27.
- Enrollment in the program is limited and those teens who are interested will need to complete an application, interview and be accepted into the program.

Regarding the Jewish teen Intership program, I understand that we missed the application deadline. I am wondering if you would accept a late application. My son, Zachary Gross, will be entering 9th grade in the fall and is interesting in applying.
Thank you,
Linda Grpss

Hi Linda,
Zachary can still apply for the program, if he completes all the paperwork and participates in the group interviews which are being held over the next few weeks. Please send me an email, so I can then email you all the forms and information.
Thank you,

The Jewish Teen Internship is not a paying job. It is an unpaid internship for Jewish teens going into grades 8-10. If you are interested, please contact youth director Darren Benedick at darrenbenedick@googlemail.com.

Hi Zach,
I am sorry, but the program is completely full. In addition, the orientation was a critical piece of the program. The teens learned a lot of valuable information about working with campers, and we would be remiss if we let teens participate without this learning. Enjoy your summer, and stay in touch for next year’s program!
